By January 1, 2021, all Americans traveling to Europe will need to apply for the ETIAS visa, which stands for European Travel Information and Authorization System.
The visa allows US travelers to enter 22 countries in the Schengen Zone, which includes Italy, Germany, and France. It's not needed to enter the UK. Travelers can use their ETIAS visas for up to three years, and can enter Europe multiple times. According to the European Commission, the new visas are being implemented in attempts to increase international security.
In two years, Americans will need to apply for something called ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) in order to enter the continent. The European Commission says the new visas will be enforced as an effort to upgrade international security, effective January 1, 2021.
